About The Actonians

The Actonians are an amateur drama group, set up in 1967, and still going strong. From our base at Iron Acton Parish Hall we present two productions each year and often enter the Avon Short Play Festival in the Spring. We also have lots of social events for members and non-members and support the Iron Acton May Day on the Green celebrations by running the refreshment tent!

Our productions vary hugely in style, period and genre, including contemporary drama, Shakespeare, comedy and pantomimes. We have been known to produce the occasional musical too! Although we work on a small stage, we never shy away from tackling anything that looks daunting, but rather ask ourselves how we can achieve the best production in the space available. We also have a vibrant youth group, Junior Actonians.

We are a very active, friendly group and are always keen to welcome new members whether you wish to tread the boards or support backstage. If you are interested in joining then please contact us using the "Contact Us" page. Our club nights are Wednesdays from 7:30pm. You will always receive a very warm welcome.

Junior Actonians

The Junior Actonians meet on Wednesday evenings from 6:00pm to 7:30pm. Their lively sessions include drama games, workshops, improvisations and preparing for productions. If you have a youngster, over 10 years old (Year 6) and under 18, who is interested please contact us via the "Contact Us" page.

History

In April 1967 the local Women's Institute produced a couple of one-act plays in the Iron Acton Parish Hall. Having acquired a taste for treading the boards they formed the Actonians Drama Group. Later that year the Actonians performed their first play "Quiet Wedding", check out our 'Archive' page to see the many plays we have produced since then!
